The recent tragic death of Esther Ayuma at MCCH prompted generous supporters to provide funds for vaccinating our children against pneumonia and meningitis.
But the illness that most plagues Mescal's Kids is malaria. We know that Esther died from pneumonia, a complication of malaria, transmitted by diseased mosquitoes.. There is no vaccine against malaria and preventive measures are in place, as the children sleep under mosquito nets and plans are being made to spray for the insects. But the major problem is the outdoor toilets attracting the mosquitoes and the buildings that are in extremely poor conditions, allowing the mosquitoes in at night..
MCCH has been planning for a new building for the children for some time now, but Esther's untimely death has prompted a sense of urgency to proceed speedily with plans to get them into a safer, healthier environment as soon as possible.. The new building will be in a cleaner, rural area, with indoor plumbing.
Our proposed new orphanage will consist of three buildings, one dormitory for the boys, one for the girls, and a common area housing the kitchen, matron quarters, and dining hall. All three buildings cover approximately 3300 square feet and the price quote we received from the contractor was $107,767.70. We currently are at about 20% of our goal, a good start, but a long way to go.
This is a God-sized project, ordained by Him we earnestly believe. We covet your prayers for our Jehovah Jireh to raise up partners to help provide this much-needed facility for Mescal's Kids and if you would like to contribute to our building project, we would be deeply grateful.
